Escaping Venezuela is a 73-minute feature documentary from Reason magazine that chronicles a nation’s descent from South America’s wealthiest democracy into an impoverished dictatorship. Framed by the 2026 capture of the dictator Nicolás Maduro by U.S. military forces, the film brings the country’s political and economic collapse to life through the personal story of Carlos Mora and his family.

Through one family’s struggle to survive and resist, Escaping Venezuela shows how the destruction of democratic institutions, civil liberties, and free enterprise devastated a country and drove millions from their homes.

Join us for a film screening followed by a panel discussion with Director Jim Epstein and Harvard Growth Lab Director Ricardo Hausmann.
