Research Collaborations
Collaboration is at the core of the Growth Lab. Our multidisciplinary team, comprising researchers with backgrounds in economics, mathematics, physics, computer science, and related fields, approaches core research questions through team-based efforts.
In most of our policy engagements, we work directly with government leaders and development practitioners in the field to apply research to policy problems, enabling tangible change. We also collaborate with a community of faculty and research experts within and beyond Harvard University who help expand our expertise.
Our research insights, whether in the form of publications, presentations, or digital tools, are available for the public good.
Empowering Refugees to Rebuild the Ukrainian Economy
In this collaboration with the Complexity Science Hub and Central European University, researchers identified the skills and interests of the Ukrainian refugee communities in Austria and Germany. The goal was to form partnerships with companies that have investment plans in Ukraine and are interested in training refugees. The team worked with the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy to ensure that investments match national reconstruction goals.

Collaboration Spotlight
Project on Indigenous Governance and Development at HKS
Our Pathways to Prosperity in Wyoming project is leveraging the knowhow and capabilities of the Harvard’s Project on Indigenous Governance and Development. In February 2023, Prof. Emeritus Joe Kalt joined the project to present to leaders from the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone tribes on the Wind River Reservation. The project is working to support tribally led initiatives to address development challenges on the reservation and connect the labor market to the regional economy.
